I am so excited to share my new book, “I Am A Christian, This is Why: A Logical Response to the Skeptic,” That goes on sale this Sunday, December 23, 2018 on Amazon, Kindle, and my website, that I wanted to share a sneak peek into one of the questions under the Frequently Asked Questions Section in the books Addendum.
So, many of you know that I spent some time studying and researching for myself to figure out what I believe. However, I’ve also spent a lot of time (once becoming a Christian) answering controversial questions of other Christians, skeptics, persons who are of other beliefs and/or on the fence about what they believe.
So, I tallied up the questions I heard the most and answered them in the book. Here is a short version of one. Enjoy and buy the book for MORE!!!
Question: If God directs (or knows) everything, does free will really exist?
Answer: First, a person’s will is always a relatively small part of any given circumstance. However, because God is outside of time, He already knows the end from the beginning, but this foreknowledge does not by any means affect the decisions, direction, and destiny of men.
Example: Imagine you are the type of sports fan that records the games when you are not home to see them and then watches them later. Well, while on your way home to watch your favorite basketball game, you get a call from your friend who tells you that your favorite team won! Excited but disappointed because you’d rather had seen it for yourself, you still decide to watch the game when you get home. First quarter your team is down by 5, second quarter they are down by 10, by halftime they are down by a whole 20-points. But you are not panicking. Why? Because you already know the outcome and so you continue to watch the game and low and behold they turn it around in the fourth quarter and win by 11-points. Now, did your knowing the outcome affect the players in the game? No. They still made their own decisions and went in their own direction to their ultimate destiny as winners!!! The same is true with God and us! His foreknowledge does not affect or alter our free will.
